In early October 2018 we wrote a batch of songs…

In late October we went into the very modest but ample live room of Volcom Studios in Costa Mesa, CA with the intention to demo those songs live…’Pushing Clicking’, ‘Metaphor For War’ and ‘Thru To Day’. We were so pleased with the outcome and energy that came off the live recordings that we decided to add one more song and put this session out as a new EP…our first release since ‘Monsters We Breed’.

Building on the momentum and taking to heart some of the feedback we’ve received over the years that our albums didn’t capture the energy of the band live, we decided to not over think it and record these songs quickly.

A couple weeks later on a Tuesday we came together as a band and wrote ‘Only Ride Hi’. We went back to the studio the next day and again, cut it live. Keeping the second take and happy with the vibe we had, we scheduled a couple days to mix and do minimal over dubs in December.

The whole project was meant to be written and recorded fast…trusting our initial instincts and tracked the way a lot of our favorite albums were made when bands still had to know how to play together!
